Alice Palmer, Jade Kang and Carly Neilson were announced as the three finalists for Fashion Fringe 2010 - here they are celebrating the great news on Friday with John Galliano. The finalists will show their collections in September at the Fashion Fringe at Covent Garden catwalk during London Fashion Week!

Fashion Fringe offers something that every young designer hopes for and needs. The finalists will undergo an intensive mentoring programme from industry experts and sponsors in all subjects surrounding the industry and business, from PR to marketing, logistics to sales, brand identity to individuality, and from law to finance. During July and August the designers are given a budget along with studio space at the London College of Fashion to create their capsule collection! It’s difficult enought for most designers to produce two collections a year but having a mentor like Galliano, who produces 35 collections a year including ready-to-wear Galliano and Dior, Haute Couture Dior and John Galliano menswear, is definitely a big win for all three finalists!

Viking Wong is one of the most exciting new designers

to have launched his own brand in London this

season and his collection is now available for viewings

to press, stylists and buyers at the Felicities Designer

Fresh from graduating from London’s LCF, Viking

Wong launched his stunning debut, ready-to-wear

collection for AW10 at Vauxhall Fashion Scout in

February. The collection is based around the theme of

“a work in progress” focusing on the elements behind

a finished garment. Inspired by unfinished pieces and

their imperfections, the collection features strong tailored pieces which use

their imperfections to demonstrate their beauty, resulting in extremely elegant

and wearable garments.

Inspired by history and through remarkable talent, Viking Wong combines

traditional methods of tailoring with the introduction of new conceptual

shapes. Often androgynous, his designs are iconoclastic, whilst fluid and

feminine, which is indicative of his signature style. His exceptional strength in

both embellishment and experimentation with silhouette has quickly gained

prestigious recognition.

Since graduating from London College of Fashion in 2009, Viking Wong has

already exhibited in the V&A Museum as well as being a finalist in New York’s

Gen Art Styles Vision Award 09.

Ada Zanditon has had a triumphant AW10 season which has

taken the label to new levels with her Echolocation collection

attracting substantial media coverage and a significant

increase in orders and new stockists. Zanditon has also

increased her reputation as one of the fastest rising, creative

stars in London through her recent private commissions,

creating pieces for performance artists such as Viktoria Modesta

Viktoria Modesta made her impressive television debut last night, performing on a bill which included Groove Armada & Marina & The Diamonds for Chanel 4's Evo Music Rooms.

For this special performance Viktoria chose to wear her favourite designer Ada Zanditon, who has created several bespoke designs for her promotional campaign.

A film crew has been following Viktoria and the band for a week as they prepare for the event and filming them recording in the studio, working on her choreography and for most of the filming she has been wearing Ada Zanditon. Watch out for the interview with Ada and Viktoria as they talk about how much they love working together and how she is Ada’s muse.

Viktoria Modesta has been selected as one of 6 WINNERS as best unsigned music acts in the UK from thousands of applicants to be Channel 4's Evo Music Rooms stars of tomorrow and the programme will be screened on Chanel 4 on Wednesday 5^th May.

Politics isn’t just something that happens in the houses of parliament and voting doesn’t just happen every four years. Everyday we make choices that shape our world. Think Act Vote is a campaign to inspire us to think positively about our future and the votes we cast, today, tomorrow and forever.

Felicities designer Ada Zanditon, alongside leading ethical fashion designers Junky Styling, Ciel, Beautiful Soul, Tara Starlet, Traid Remade, Nancy Dee and Miksani then took on the challenge to either customise the t-shirt, or turn it into a show piece using only leftover fabric from their previous collections. They only had a week to design and produce their pieces. The idea behind this was to encourage creativity and show how you can use fashion to express yourself and a message.

Ada Zanditon’s inspiration for the garment came from the idea of what motivates people and the need to be provocative in order to open thought and motivation – a timely tribute to Malcolm McClaren and his punk anarchy.

Felicities are thrilled to announce that they are now representing new womenswear brand Anya Wilkinson

Felicities are thrilled to be representing emerging designer Anya Wilkinson. Her eponymous label has a distinctive signature style of beautiful, feminine, avant-garde yet wearable pieces with distinctive embellishments.

Her AW10 collection is now in the Felicities Designer Showroom and the line includes day and cocktail dresses, tailored jackets and stylish coats, created in a wide range of materials, including chiffon, silk, leather and heavy coating to give pieces a sense of individuality which balances contemporary and classic design.

Anya Wilkinson is a Russian born British designer now based in London who graduated from the London College of Fashion in 2009. Her successful graduation show during Graduate Fashion Week, led her collection to be exhibited at Scharway.com to high acclaim. Anya’s professional background includes work placements with such established designers as Jasmine Di Milo, Roksanda Ilincic and Zoe Bradley.

Anya established her own label in 2008 with her first fashion line sponsored by Dressmania boutique and successfully showcased at Birmingham Clothes Show.

The Anya Wilkinson Autumn/Winter 2010 collection was showcased during London Fashion Week at a Fashion Maverick’s event.

Anya Wilkinson is set to be a future brand leader in fashion in London.

Heidi Mottram has broken away from tradition and enhances the tactile nature of eel skin leathers by working with the skins in different ways to add a modern twist. With signature hot fuchsia pink zips, these pieces are at once beautiful and covetable. Eel skin products are traditionally smooth and linear due to the natural pattern and construction of the skin, but are manipulated in Heidi Mottram’s work to create more organic structures and textures. Sumptuously rich and vibrant, these new jewel coloured shapes and texture would compliment any woman’s wardrobe.

Heidi describes eel skin as ‘an amazing feather light super soft material’ - one-hundred and fifty percent stronger than cowhide leather of the same thickness, eel skin is incredibly durable and becomes softer and suppler with wear. Most importantly to Heidi, eel skin is a by-product, ensuring that the eels are not harmed for their skin.

Formed in 2004 after studying at Central Saint Martins, Heidi Mottram jewel coloured purses, bags and wallets are already making their mark on the worldwide fashion scene, with stockists in London, Paris, Spain, LA, Tokyo, Germany and Greece.

Heidi Mottram graduated from Central Saint Martins in textiles and, inspired by her work with Vivienne Westwood, set up her own corsetry business. Though successful, Heidi felt unfulfilled and took time out to travel, intending to find new materials for her corsets. During the trip Heidi rediscovered eel skin, a fabric she was familiar with as she remembered her mother having an eel skin purse when she was a child. An intensive course in accessories pattern cutting later, Heidi was ready to launch ‘Heidi Mottram’, an accessories brand that breaks the boundaries and confines ordinarily associated with the eel skin fabric to create stunning, usable pieces.

Fantastic Response for Orschel-Read AW10 Collection

"Fågeln" - the much anticipated Orschel-Read AW2010 collection received a fantastic response when it was presented at Vauxhall Fashion Scout during London Fashion Week on 24th February. This season inspiration stems from the subtle beauty of female birds and the ceiling murals of Stockholm’s Storkyrkan Cathedral. The collection features charming, William Morris inspired, innovative prints, classic shapes and highly technical tailoring resulting in ingeniously beautiful pieces. The collection cleverly balances tailoring with a classic sportswear feel, in earthy tweeds, digitally printed leathers, knit and fine tailoring wools. The Orschel-Read collections are all designed and produced in-house in London.

Stefán Orschel-Read launched his label 'Orschel-Read' in 2008 and presented his debut collection for SS 2010, at London Fashion Week 2009. The collection was presented in two sections, CXll and DXll and was inspired by Shakespeare’s Twelfth Night, Hindu artwork and London’s multicultural youth. The two collections merged couture liberty fabrics with wearable silhouettes and accessible tailoring, marrying innovative leather work, contemporary pagan influences and organic materials. Both collections generated strong press attention, with magazines including British Vogue, 7th Man, AnOther, V, Sunday Times Style, and Dazed & Confused shooting pieces for features by photographers including Hedi Slimane, Nick Knight and David Bailey. Fashion icon Lady Gaga has worn several pieces from the collection.

Stefán Orschel-Read graduated from the prestigious Central Saint Martin’s (CSM) in 2008 with an honours degree in Menswear Fashion. His graduate collection 'Mourning for Orlando' was an avant-garde menswear line inspired by Virginia Woolf's 1928 novel Orlando.Prior to his degree he collaborated with Pavel Rudanovsky on the conceptual 'UnFashion Show' series. In 2007 he presented his first solo menswear couture show in aid of the Hope Rwanda charity. Stefán was also awarded Reserve Champion of the Can You Cut It "Young Designer of the Year 2005".

Innovative designer Alice Palmer has again pushed the boundaries of the design and production of knitwear in the creation of her stunning new AW10 collection ‘Batman’.
This season Alice has found inspiration from a range of concepts including the technologically advanced engineering of the Batmobile, the strong shapes and structures of Anish Kapoor with an added touch of punk rock edginess.

Echolocation embarks on a journey into the sultry nocturnal swathe of the low set winter sky; glamorous, sexy and elegant ready to wear locked in a twilight embrace. The union of print and structure creates an alluring, powerfully feminine, collection that takes us from day to evening.
Zanditon, inspired by Bats and their use of sound to image the nocturnal landscape through echoes, leads us into a dark visceral world captured in geometrically cut body con dresses and high octane full length glamour. Lines in the form are echoed softly in jewel coloured pleating creating wearable architectural detailing. Teal nestles alongside shimmering jade against a backdrop of Bilberry, Indigo and Heather with startling flashes of hot pink.

The energy and verve of the early 90’s has inspired a modern classic aesthetic translated through denim pieces and colourful all over prints (all created by Zanditon using her signature illustrations and photography). Fair trade organic denim teams up with Shetland wool woven in Gloucestershire by Marling and Evans. Silk organza, taffeta and crepe satin sit elegantly alongside digitally printed organic cotton sateen and Tencel jversey. Other fabrics and yarns have been sourced from pre/post consumer waste.

This season sees the return of Ada Zanditon’s successful jewellery collaboration with designer Luca Romanyi. The opalescent designs are realised in a high tech recycled eco resin, thanks to innovators 3 Form, adding an electric charge to the range.

Heather McFarlane from the Bat Conservation Trust, has been instrumental in assisting us with our research in this collection and as part of the pre collection range we have developed organic cotton bamboo t-shirts with 10% of profits going to the Bat Conservation Trust.

Autumn Winter 2010/11 marks Ada Zanditon’s Second season with Vauxhall Fashion Scout having debuted in the ONES TO WATCH show last season. This sees her return to the schedule with a solo show proudly sponsored by Gleeds.

“I present to you a distinctively dark and refined collection with inspiration centred on the body armour and prickly demeanour of the beetle; demonstrated through sharp tailored aspects. Fine feminine facets draw the eye to the erogenous zones - accentuated hips, pointed shoulders, panelled bodies and elements of quilting with the odd corset ultimately magnifying the waist, bust and hips as a definitive characteristic of the Harriet’s muse signature.

Blackest black is lifted slightly with accents of deep teal and faded pink lilac. Hand embroidered beetles are sporadically placed on the odd piece giving the odd metallic glint.

Doii Lee graduated with BA Hons in Fashion Design and Knitwear from Central Saint Martins College of Art and Design, London, in May 2002. She presented the first collection of ‘Doii Paris’ during Paris Fashion Week 2006 October.

Jacob Kimmie presents his fabulous new collection ‘Pilgrim’ at his catwalk show on Saturday 20th February at Vauxhall Fashion Scout, during London Fashion Week.

Jacob has created yet another sublime and exciting collection with key silhouettes featuring beautiful, long and lean pieces, faux layering emphasised with cut-away effects at the shoulders and on sleeves and “primitive” skirts in draped and pleat effects.

Jacob found inspiration for this collection in the idea of the modern Aztec, Inca temples and religious rituals creating a mood of enlightenment and spirituality. Lako Bukia presents the emotions collection

Lako Bukia is thrilled to present her emotions collection at Fashion Mavericks during London Fashion Week.

The concept behind this second collection from Lako Bukia is emotions and the divide between positive, kind emotions and the darker, evil side. Using colour, shape and textiles to represent these diverse elements of one’s emotional characteristics Lako Bukia has created a strong, innovative collection.

The monochrome palette delineates the separate emotions - expressed through a set of white shirts against the darker black dresses, trousers and skirts. Using materials of different textures the collection also incorporates a range of fabrics including wools for the sharper forms and accents of silks to soften the shapes.

Continuing the theme, the shapes have been adapted into two parts, with the sharp, square and rectangular lines integrated with softer, circular forms. The creative use of zips has made a synthesis possible as each garment within the collection can be transformed offering a combination of silhouettes.

The emotions collection has already been highly acclaimed and this young designer is definitely one to watch.

Currently studying at the London College of Fashion for her second BA degree, Lako Bukia has already achieved a first class honours degree in Fashion Design and Textiles from A. Kutateladze Tbilisi State Academy of Art, shown to international acclaim in her home country of Georgia, has been hand selected to show at Ukrainian Fashion Week, has exhibited and studied at Central St Martins and also taken a course at the prestigious Instituto Marangoni in Milan. Lako has also worked with acclaimed stylist Katie Burnett to gain insight into the world of fashion styling.

Ada Zanditon is an innovative ethical fashion designer focussed on creating desirable fashionable Womenswear. Her latest collection for Autumn Winter 2010 continues the theme of biodiversity and biomimicry which is fast becoming a hallmark of Ada’s architecturally disciplined collections.

The conceptual yet wearable designs reflect the bats use of a remarkable high frequency system to navigate as they fly in near total darkness. Working similarly to sonar, bats make calls as they fly, and listen to the returning echoes to build up a sonic map of their surroundings. Ada has taken this concept into the collection via a modern aesthetic and geometric cutting, echoing shapes within the silhouette that then ripple softly away from the body whilst maintaining a body con silhouette. This nocturnal ‘vision’ is also reflected in the prints which incorporate her illustrations and photography.

Beautifully blended with a bruised colour palette of the low set winter sky, structured silhouettes and prints of webbed bare branches and beating wings, the collection for Autumn/Winter 2010 presents a nocturnal swathe of sultry, strong pieces, versatile in wear from day to evening. The fabrics feature sumptuous digitally printed organic cotton, silk and silk jersey, fair-trade organic denim, Shetland wool woven in Gloucestershire and bamboo/organic cotton T-shirts as well a super soft and sustainable Tencel Jersey.

Key pieces in the pre-collection comprise a range of day to evening wear with jerseys, unique prints and T-shirts. Garments include a recycled denim skirt, prints cross over from easy silk jersey vest dresses onto structured architectural organic cotton Corset dresses.

The main Ada Zanditon collection embraces glamorous and chic dresses for effortless elegance and sophistication including the Le Bon jewel coloured party dress; Valentina, a perfect bias cut purple satin full length dress and a dress inspired by Tilda Swinton which oozes sexy elegance for day or evening wear.

The Fashion and Textile Museum are pleased to announce the opening of ‘30 Years of Pineapple by Debbie Moore’, a retrospective exhibition that runs until 24^th February 2010.

‘30 Years of Pineapple’ celebrates the success of the brand and its influence on fashion over the last thirty years. The exhibition features key looks created by Debbie Moore for the Pineapple label include the Body, the legging, cotton lycra dresses and the Boyfriend sweatshirt.

The ‘30 Years of Pineapple’ exhibition is free and is hosted by the Fashion and Textile Museum, until 24^th February 2010. Exhibition opening times are Wednesday – Sunday, 11am – 6pm with last admission at 5.15pm.

Debbie Moore, a famous model of the 60s, founded Pineapple Dance Studios in 1979 in London’s Covent Garden. Recognising a need for an accessible, affordable dance space, Moore soon found herself with a highly successful business. Moore also noticed another gap in the market. Dancewear available at the time was Nylon Lycra and shiny performance wear. The dancers themselves were looking for something more comfortable and fluid; customised tights from school uniforms were a common sight. With this in mind, Moore approached DuPont in 1979 to develop a fabric that would change the way people dressed: cotton Lycra.

Pineapple’s dancewear in the newly developed fabric was an instant hit. The range quickly expanded as Moore continued to innovate in the collection. Her fresh approach and intuitive sense of what women wanted to wear led Pineapple from strength to strength. A New York branch of the Studios opened in 1982, further increasing the influence of the Pineapple aesthetic.

Among the looks created by Debbie Moore for the Pineapple label include the Body (pre-Donna Karan), the legging and the Boyfriend sweatshirt. She also designed the first range of cotton Lycra dresses; simple fitted shapes in a fitted, easy-to-wear fabric that were unlike anything available to consumers at the time. The result was electric, influencing the fashion industry across the board. All of these designs have helped define the styles of their respective decades.

Pineapple has continued to expand and is now recognised for its influence on fashion of the last thirty years. Debbie Moore’s career has been long and successful, inspiring many women in business along the way. She re-created the original Pineapple styles with on-line retail phenomenon ASOS, introducing a new generation to this innovative, and historically definitive, company.

For the SS10 collection, Saffron Knight has not only crafted a distinctive array of garments but she has also designed and hand printed the fabric to exacting standards. Saffron delved into her dual heritage of Jamaican and British cultures to create an appealing array of prints in this unique and exciting collection.

Saffron Knight researched the infamous ‘Dancehall Culture’ of Jamaica’s music scene and also traditional dance themes such as jazz, flamenco and ballroom to make a fascinating contrast in her designs. She has then hand drawn all the prints before using CAD to digitally transfer the prints to the fabric. Saffron is keen to maintain the personal link between the artist’s hand drawn initial design and the end printed fabric in her work.

The Saffron Knight collection includes an eye-catching range of dresses, jackets and tops which all feature her signature prints. There is also a collection of unique T-Shirts that include elements of the distinctive design prints.

Saffron Knight will be taking part in the next London Fashion Week season showcasing her work both through the Felicities Designer Showroom and with Fashion Maverick.

the account for new womenswear brand Emesha.

Emesha is a sport-luxe label created for
environmentally conscious women who do not want
to compromise on style and fashion. Experimental
pattern cutting and draping techniques are
combined with crisp tailoring to create clean, classic
silhouettes and feminine looks. All garments are
produced with attention to refined details and to the
highest standard of quality.

Emesha is fully committed to environmental and
social responsibilities. The fabrics used are 100%
natural, therefore fully bio-degradable. The brand’s
mission is to always source new eco-friendly fabrics,
use sustainable materials and recycle as much as
possible. They aim to use recycled paper for
letterheads and labels, and promote e-brochures to save paper waste.

Emesha practices a fair wage policy and production is organized to help the
deprived fashion industry in Hungary to survive the difficult economic and social
changes.

The eponymous label has been established by Emesha Nagy who graduated from
the London College of Fashion in 2006. She spent a year-long internship at Vivienne
Westwood and after graduation she supported the Head of Design at Jasper
Conran.

Very Sanderson: 150 years of English decoration

New exhibition at the FTM 19th March – 13th June 2010

The Fashion and Textile Museum is pleased to announce details of its collaboration with Sanderson - one of the world’s most innovative and pioneering fabrics and furnishings companies - as it celebrates its 150th
anniversary in 2010.

The work of this most quintessentially English company will be showcased in a new exhibition which runs from 19th March – 13thJune 2010 and will take visitors on a tour de force of 150 years of English decoration.

When Arthur Sanderson set up his business in 1860 as an importer of French
wallpapers he could scarcely have imagined that a century later it would have
grown into a company with a landmark London showroom serving an
international market. One hundred and fifty years since it started Sanderson is
still going strong today.

However, the exhibition charts not just the Sanderson story, but the social history
of a country reflected through domestic furnishings and the changing social
mores of society.

For example, Sanderson was a beneficiary of the building boom in Britain in the
1880s that led to greater demand for affordable wallpaper and the company
was quick to take advantage of this by expanding its range of machine-printed
papers. Adapting to new trends has been a key theme throughout Sanderson’s
history and is central to its longevity, as is its expansion into printed textiles and
other decorative items.

The exhibition is staged by the Fashion and Textile Museum and runs from the
19th March 2010 until the 13th June 2010

Exhibition opening times are Wednesday – Sunday, 11am – 6pm. Last admission
5.15pm.

Ticket prices are £6.50 for adults, £3.50 for students and concessions, free entry
for under 12s

GeeGee - a new high-end designer womenswear brand - has just been launched by fashion entrepreneur Rebecca Agouropoulos. Rebecca has established the new brand in response to an identified need for gorgeous, high-quality, wearable garments for the Generation X female. The first collection will be available to stockists from December 2009 and, as an almost unique aspect of the collections these days, every single piece is made in England.

GeeGee encapsulates the urban zeitgeist but with a glorious twist – subtle referencing to a variety of country themes. The collections, delicately influenced by country pursuits yet embodying ‘on trend’ designs, comprise desirable pieces that can be added to every woman’s wardrobe yet have wearability, longevity and represent value for money in the mid-luxury market.

The Original Champion

His name was Manny Manville, the man who put ordinary on the map. Strongly rumoured to have invented such items as the chopping board, the cocktail umbrella and the flapjack he provided 1970s Britain with timeless icons of ordinary.
But it was Manville’s passion for talking which will forever stand him apart from the crowd. Manny talked like no other of his generation. He talked fast and he talked hard, but it was one subject to which his words were almost always dedicated – the ordinary.
In an ever advancing world, Manville spoke to all who would listed, desperate to champion life’s ordinary pleasures before they were left behind by technological and societal advances.
In 1979 Manville died aged 37 at Speakers Corner in Hyde Park, London. To this day he remains the only confirmed case in global medical history of death by talking. It was his passion for the ordinary which had proven his conqueror.
